It Was a Dark and Stormy Night

It was indeed a dark and stormy night last night. Not once, not twice, but three times, the storms woke me. I should say they woke Nemo who then woke me. He has developed a sensitivity to storms that borders on panic. And, when panic takes over, there’s no reasoning with him.

But, we made it through, thank the Lord, and we’re all present and accounted for this morning. We did need the rain and I’m thankful for it. The temperature actually reached 100 degrees in NW Arkansas yesterday and hotter than that in near-by Oklahoma.

It’s cloudy this morning and everything is still–listening, waiting for whatever comes next.

The coffee is good and hot. From the bathroom comes the sound of a Christmas carol. I have one of those clocks that plays a carol at the top of each hour. When my niece Missy was visiting, she came in to breakfast one morning and said, “You know, strangest thing, this morning I thought I distinctly heard strains of “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing.” She kidded me about Christmas in June.

I’m reminded daily of the preciousness of life, the value of family and friends. Whatever time we are allotted on this earth, it is fleeting. It is a gift. Let’s care for each other, hurting when others hurt, rejoicing when they rejoice. Whatever your day is like, whether it’s stormy or fair, I hope it’s filled with gladness and fullness of spirit.

If you long for a small escape from summer, I invite you to Ednalee, Oklahoma, to a cozy little murder mystery where things turns out right in the end, where good friends gather and snow falls and danger lurks just around the corner. It’s all there in Moonlight Can Be Murder.
