A while back, a small incident happened in real life that sort of put my nose out of joint and was totally frustrating. So, to relieve tension, I grabbed a pencil and a piece of paper and wrote, OneĀ old woman and one little dog lived together in a house of log. Outside the house, where no one could see, an owl sat in a tall oak tree.
Where did the story go after that? I had no idea but I felt so much better. Writing is a good way to vent frustration.
To not be frustrated would be a major achievement in today’s political climate. You can’t do a thing about it except vote? Well, maybe not, but you are in charge of your reaction. Write out your frustration then tear it up. Put all your worries, fears, frustrations, yes, even bitterness on paper. Read it over, then shred it and throw it away. It’s great therapy. Sometimes, when you see something written, it helps direct your own thoughts. Believe me, venting on paper, privately, is much better than erupting to anyone else.
Reading fiction is a good way to unwind too. All kinds of adventures await within the covers of a book. Books are kind of like a vacation in an armchair. And, you don’t have to wear a mask!
Writing and reading are escape valves. Use them.
