Inheritance

Inheritance

I’m delving into my ancestry and, let me tell you, it’s fun and it’s also eye-opening. Trying to find these people from whom I resulted is like trying to solve a mystery. Sometimes it takes a whole lot of sleuthing and it’s the sort of on-going mystery that doesn’t seem to have an end.

An ancestor sailed from England, way back, 300 years ago, aboard a ship named the Truelove. How romantic is that! Is that why the sea has always held a fascination for me? I even found the passenger list of that ship. Evidently, he was a good guy because he received a commendation from the captain. Arriving in the New World, he set about making his presence known.

But then, interestingly, was a long ago woman with a mind of her own who must have had a sharp tongue and not been shy about letting her dissatisfaction be known. In fact, she was so unruly that her husband, a soft-spoken, kind fellow,  left her and they spent their golden years living apart. In that day and time, that was highly irregular!

Some of my ancestors were already here when others arrived by boat. These people had their own stories, their own hopes. They loved and, I’m afraid, probably hated, experiencing those human emotions shared by us all.

Anyway, there are scads of these people, hailing from various and sundry places and each has a story. There were good times, bad times; there were shining moments of victory and some that they just slogged through the best way they could. Ancestry is a fascinating study.

Darcy Campbell thought she knew all about her ancestors, but she had one surprising revelation after another. In fact, she had so many surprises concerning her forebearers that her mind was all a-muddle with who she really was. On top of all that, someone in town had heard about a family story and was determined to confiscate any hidden treasure that was about. Grave Heritage reveals facts about Darcy that she had never dreamed of. In fact, neither had her mom Flora. Ancestors are surprising people.
