This morning, I woke up with the old song, In the Misty Moonlight running through my head. If you don’t remember it or would like to hear it again, please click the link. There are several versions but this one is by one of my all-time favorite singers, Jim Reeves.
So, why was I thinking of misty moonlight when, quite plainly, the moon wasn’t visible last night?Rain clouds covered its face. Of course, it was because of a couple of books, Moonlight Can Be Murder, By the Fright of the Silvery Moon, maybe three, were foremost on my mind. Do I dream about my books? I don’t think I do, but they are certainly on my mind, especially when I’m writing a third one.
Last night, we finally got that long-awaited rainfall. And, this morning everything is dampish, cool, and much relieved at the reprieve. Some years, the change of weather from warm to cool actually seems to come on the first day of fall. I wonder if this will be one of those years?
Each year, I hear forecasts of what the winter will be. I kind of like the Farmer’s Almanac version. But, here are some that may not be in there: if there’s a lot of acorns, the winter will be severe. (Well, there’s lots and lots of acorns this fall. I’d think that would keep the opportunistic squirrels from getting into my bird feeders, but I’ll bet it won’t.) If October 9 is sunny, the winter will be mild. But, will I remember this on October 9? Probably not.
Here’s one I think may be true: if wild animals wear a thicker than usual coat of fur, the winter will be severe. Makes sense, doesn’t it? But, I don’t plan on getting close enough to any wild animal to check that one out.
Oh, and that moon I mentioned? Tonight, if I could see it, I’d notice it is nearly full. It will be a big, round, silvery full moon on October 1 and October 2. I hope, though, that clouds obscure it and we have more rain!
