This morning as I gaze at my quiet street, my heart is full of many things: gratitude, hopes, concerns, dreams and memories. Sometimes as I drink in the quiet rustle of the trees, the way morning shadows slope across green grass, or the optimistic song of birds, I let my thoughts stray backward to what Etta Bend must have looked like, a hundred or more years ago, the home where my mother grew up. And, I’m there.
I’ll never know the Latty farm as Mom knew it. It has been gone for a long time, taken over by progress and Tenkiller Dam. But in my thoughts, I can imagine what it must have been. I feel the cool floorboards of the high front porch, I hear the cows in the barnyard, the tinkle of a bell as one swings her head. I hear Ma and Pappy’s soft voices, smell ham frying and biscuits baking in the wood burning stove. Yes, if I so choose, I am there in my thoughts.
Perhaps that is why I’m a writer: I want others to see what I see and feel what I feel. I want to create a world where things always work out in the end. Progress and changes may come but the human spirit lives on, valiant, unquenchable. In the end, right and good always triumph.
Wherever you are today, whatever problems you face or whatever challenges lie in front of you, I pray that God’s love surrounds you and your heart finds peace. _________________________

Your “In My Heart” beginning reminded me of the chorus that follows with, ” there rings a melody”. Have a great day rejoicing in The Lord.
I know which song you mean. I’ve always liked it. “In my heart there rings a melody, there rings a melody, with Heaven’s harmony. In my heart there rings a melody, there rings a melody of love.” etc. One of those great old songs with a cheerful message.
Blanche, as I was reading this, I was there, too..even smelled the ham and biscuits! My next thought was what a wonderful writer you are to “transport” me so far away!
The very next sentence I read was your “Perhaps that is why I am a writer,..”
Perhaps so!! : )
I always appreciate your comments, Fran. You are an encourager!
