Hurricane Ida churns toward Louisiana, growing larger and more dangerous by the hour. I’ve never been in a hurricane and never hope to be, but many people have and are. I can imagine the roar, the lashing of destroying winds, and the pound, pound of rain. But, to me, the scariest thing is the storm surge. To know that the sea is rising up and rushing on-shore would be beyond terrifying.
I admire the people of Louisiana as they courageously do what must be done to survive. Many are moving out of the way, the safest thing to do. Hopefully, they will all vacate the areas of unsurvivable wind and water. I see videos of them covering windows, stacking sand bags, buying supplies, doing the best they can. But, my hope is that they realize things don’t matter nearly as much as life. Things can be replaced; lives cannot. When man comes face to face with uncontrollable nature, the strength and fury of a storm of this magnitude, the ferocity of the hurricane must be realized and respected.
My prayers are for Louisiana, and for all who are possible victims of Ida.
