With autumn in the air and the remembered aroma of turkey and pumpkin pie, Thanksgiving can’t be far away! As well as a holiday for getting together with family and friends, this is a time for reflecting upon life’s many blessings, a time to embrace gratitude.
What am I especially thankful for? So many blessings raise their hands, like a class full of enthusiastic children, saying, “Me, me!” that it’s hard to know where to start.
On another website, I wrote that I’m thankful to be able to get out of bed every morning. So, was breaking my hip four years ago a blessing? I didn’t think so at the time but it certainly made me aware of how wonderful it is to be able to navigate under my own steam. Helen Keller said, “I thank God for my handicaps for, through them, I have found myself, my work, and my God.”
And, having to depend upon others for the things I usually did myself made me grateful for those kind and loving people who helped.
My house isn’t fine and it needs updating and attention paid to some minor repairs, but it is warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It is comfortable and solid but you know the best part? Contained within its four walls are the people who enter its doors. Love and laughter, sharing and caring–that’s what makes this small house my home.
My family will always be at the top of my list of blessings. And, right under them are my friends. But none of these good and marvelous things would be possible without the love and watch care of God. “Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift” II Corinthians 9:15.
There are always so many things to be thankful for — a good reminder.
You are right, Helen. Thanks for writing.
I’m thankful that my mother-in-love is willing to help out “the kids” at the drop of a hat.
And I am thankful for the best daughter-In-
love in the world!
I’m thankful for the best aunt in the world!
And I, for a precious niece.
