Hope–that fire within, the heartbeat that keeps us pushing toward the goal post. Hope beat hard in the hearts of the two teams in the Super Bowl last night.
I am not a sports fan. I don’t know a thing about the rules for football. I know more about baseball but I don’t care much about it either. Sorry. I know sports is the life’s breath for many people. But, hey! We aren’t all the same nor should we try to be.
However, I decided, since most of my family would be glued to the television screen, I’d at least give the game a peek. Then, of course, I wanted to know who won, so between the book I was reading and answering emails, I watched. What evenly matched teams! How hard they played!
By the time the game went into over-time for the first time in history, I was sitting on the edge of the sofa. Why couldn’t both teams win? One side would be terribly disappointed. But then, it was over and the New England Patriots won.
Life is like that game. We have goals. We work toward them. We hope and dream but the prize is not always a tangible one. Winning is a mind-set. If we know, within our hearts, we’ve done the best we can, the world may not see it, but we are winners. If we get up one more time after being knocked down, if we forgive that person who harmed us, if we forgive ourselves for our imperfections, if we try hard, we are winners. Most of all, if we love God and our fellow-man, follow Jesus and His teachings to the best of our frail abilities, we can never lose. Whether or not anyone cheers us on or rewards us for a victory, we are winners, every time.
Amen I think I have enough excitement, challenge and work playing through the game of life. God’s team is the only winning team and so glad I am included in His team
Thanks for writing, Deb. I’m glad too.
