An Odd Discovery
It was cold that January morning and Darcy was not in the best frame of mind to leave the warm kitchen and her steaming cup of coffee to go out to the country where Cub was digging the foundation for their new house. He had sounded dramatic, like he had uncovered the find of the century. So, what was it–gold or an ancient artifact?
But no. When she reached Cub, sitting atop his dirt loader, he was pointing at a hole in the ground–the old hand-dug well that had been covered by a huge rock for decades. Cub had moved the rock and, being the nosy person he was, had peered into the well. What he saw, in the shadowy depths was a package lodged on the inside wall. That was all–just an old and disintegrating something–nothing to get excited about.
Pandora’s Box
Like Pandora’s box that contained the world’s troubles, this object held a great many secrets and when it was opened, one thing led to another and before they knew it, Darcy and Flora had discovered facts about their family that had been buried for many, many years–a family history they would never have imagined.
Mysterious and Deadly
Before the puzzle was completed, Darcy and Flora both wondered, Where they right to open that old and weathered package Cub found? Were they better off knowing the secrets it held? Or, would it have been best left buried and covered up, the old grave by the orchard undisturbed, Granny Grace’s journal un-read?
