Devil’s Den

Devil’s Den

Yesterday was a beautiful, warm spring day in NW Arkansas. My family and I took a trip to Devil’s Den State Park. It is a gorgeous area of dam and waterfall, creek, woods, grass; just a lovely natural setting. We picnicked, climbed, walked, took pictures, talked, and had a great time.

White splashes in the dark woods made us think the dogwoods had started to blossom but, on closer look, they were mostly wild plums. A few dogwood trees may be beginning to unfold, but it’ll be a while before they really turn out in all their splendor.

My redbud tree by the back deck is budding. I’m hoping the trees and flowers are not too early, too eager in anticipation of spring. I keep remembering that March came in like a lamb, so it is due to go out like a lion. You can’t trust March. It changes its mind too often.  On the other hand, Easter is early this year and there’s no really settled weather until after Easter, so…oh, my! Sometimes all the weather lore and old sayings fail and the season does whatever it wants to do.

Beauty was all around and above us, but also at our feet. Fragile wild flowers raised their heads to the sun.

The weatherman is saying we may be in for a rainy spell now. Rain is fine; storms are not so good. So, we’ll hope for the best.

There’s one thing for sure, we should enjoy each day as it comes. There’s always something wonderful and happy waiting just around the corner.
