Mr. Gray just came for his breakfast, looking hopefully up at the door. Nemo did not like it one bit and tried to push his way to the porch in an unwelcoming way. Nemo’s attitude didn’t ruffle Mr. Gray’s fur, though. He merely sat down and began crunching.
I poured another cup of Folgers and looked out at this cool, beautiful July morning in Northwest Arkansas. The day begins perfectly with crisp weather just this side of nippy, cat outside, dog inside, and me with a cup of hot morning brew sitting at my computer. What could be better?
Yesterday, after exercising and mopping, I decided to make a mallard duck. I rummaged through my bountiful supply of dried gourds in the garage and at last found a penguin gourd and a nest egg gourd that may fill the bill. I got this pattern from The Fairy Gourdmother, Sammie, and her mallard, of course, looks beautiful. I have no idea how mine will look when it’s completed. It may resemble a swan or a turkey more than a duck, but I’m going to give it a try.
Painting, whether on gourds, notecards, or canvas is a relaxing thing to do in between writing. The hardest part of making anything with gourds is cleaning the gourd but I did that yesterday so today, I’ll assemble paints and check out Sammie’s instructions.
Being busy is a blessing. I like to think of it as a way of praising God. Whatever I do, if I do it to the best of my ability, is a reflection of the love I have for my Savior. I praise the Lord with songs and prayers but I also praise Him by writing, baking chocolate chip cookies or mopping the floor. I even praise Him by doing the best I can on a mallard duck made out of gourds!
