Coffee with Blanche

Coffee with Blanche

The other morning, my friend Jane dropped in for a cup of coffee and a chat. Nothing pre-planned. I love impromptu visits and this morning, if you were near, I’d hope you would drop in too. We’d have coffee and talk about whatever you’d like. Which brings up a question: in the posts that I write each day, we cover a wide range of topics. What would you like to read more of? Write suggestions in the comments section. I’d really like to know.

Have you noticed that August brings a change in the air, an almost imperceptible something that tells us summer is drawing to a close? Lawns need mowing less frequently. Those early spring flowers which filled the planters are succumbing to the heat; even the trees have a quiet, brooding look about them. And, of course, school will soon be starting so for teachers, children, and parents, vacation is ending.

My neighbors are heading out to work this morning. 003First, one car goes past my window, then another. I say a short, quick blessing as they go. Do you ever do that and wonder if the person feels blessed or if the day goes better?

Seasons change, the world changes, yet it all remains the same; the same cycle with the weather, the same mistakes in world and national politics. Do people ever look back at history and learn? Why is there sort of a universal blindness? Or am I being cynical?

People change outwardly–gray hair, wrinkles, aching bones, but inside we are pretty much the same. That young person with hopes and dreams who strode briskly instead of limping, had more years in front than behind, ran, danced, laughed, and was going to change the world is still there, but an onlooker would never know it.

As your day starts, you have your own goals, plans, dreams, and memories. Remember, whatever your day holds, everything goes better with a cup of hot, strong coffee and a heartfelt prayer.

I would be thankful just to have more time to read for pleasure. With the pressures of a day job, caring for my aging father in his home, and maintaining my home…It would bring me joy to know someone said a prayer for me as I drove off to face my day. I pray each morning, but there are days I could use that extra request to the Big Guy on my behalf or the behalf of my family. Blanche, whether the person who drives by in their hurried state feels blessed or not, God hears the prayer and takes action…and isn’t that wonderful and reassuring to know?! So keep those prayers coming, and may God bless you today with good health, and joyful inspirations in your writing.

    • Thank you for that encouraging comment. I know you have a difficult job with all those things and I pray for your strength. I’ve been there too, with my mom, a job, and my home. It is hard. But, you are doing a wonderful work.
