Christmas in November

Yesterday I attended Fran’s monthly luncheon. It is always a warm, happy time of friends getting together but yesterday was even more special. Norma came from Tahlequah and went with me. So Norma, Jane, Peg, and I motored over to Fran’s together, visiting with each other (actually, chattering away like girls)  all the way there and all the way back. Fran’s house is  lovely and the food, delicious,  and yesterday she and her friend Donna from Idaho had decorated her house for Christmas. Every nook, every corner, ever table and shelf had Christmas candles or decorated trees or books on Christmas, cedar swags with red ribbons, manger scenes, angels, all arranged artfully. The day was cold, wet, and cloudy but Fran’s house was alight with laughter, food, and fellowship. It was a special day.

I think of Fran’s luncheons as celebrations. She celebrates her love for Christ and her love for people. She has a heart that freely shares. I think each day should be like that–a celebration. I have many things to be glad and happy about: my family, my friends, being a child of God. “This is the day that the Lord has made,” goes a little chorus taken from Scripture. “I will be rejoice and be glad in it.” So today, I plan to purposely look for things to celebrate. Blessings are all around me. I don’t have to wait for Christmas to rejoice. I don’t have to wait for Christmas to give gifts. Even though my house is not decorated beautifully for that special day, as is Fran’s, I can show my love for Christ and others in the things I do and the words I say. This is the day that the Lord has made. I will celebrate!
