A loud crash jarred me out of a warm slumber. Thunder! The sound of rain on the deck. Wonderful. Just when we need it so badly, grass was beginning to lose its vitality, leaves on trees and flowers were drooping. Thunder still echoes through the dark morning.
Storms and rain hold a prominent place in my cozy mysteries, and, if it’s not rain, it’s snow! I love weather and the only way I can have the kind of weather I love best is to write it into my books. So, I do.
Cats and rain and mysteries seem to go together very well. The cats I know have differing opinions about rain and storms. This is what Darcy and Flora’s cat, Jethro, said about the rain:
Jethro says: The best things about a thunderstorm are a saucer of cream and a soft cushion in a dark, warm corner.
Penny, Ned’s cat, had a slightly different opinion. (This was spoken from under Ned’s bed)
Penny: When that huge, loud monster booms through the clouds and rattles the windows, the best place to be is hiding.
If the weather is rainy or stormy at your place, grab a cozy mystery, find a comfortable chair, and take a trip to a small Oklahoma town to find out what mysteries are there, just waiting to be solved.
Mysteries love to travel. This picture was made in Dublin, from the window of the bus, the morning I left Ireland. As usual, it was raining. Ireland is a wonderful place to write or read mysteries.
