You Can’t Tell a Book By Its Cover–Or Can You?

You Can’t Tell a Book By Its Cover–Or Can You?

The first thing I notice about a new book is its cover. If the picture is intriguing, I’ll open the book, if not, I’m apt to pass it by. The covers of each of my cozy mysteries give hints about what is inside. The artist does a remarkable job of portraying the high points of each mystery.

In By the Fright of the Silvery Moon, the first thing you’ll notice is the dark blue color of the sky. It’s night; yet, there’s a silver orb over all, shining its silvery light onto a mysterious scene. A church looms out of the darkness. This isn’t just any church; it is old and it is small. It has a belfry and a bell. And there, in front, is the cemetery. A few years back, every church had its own church yard or cemetery and this final resting place figures really big in this new Ned McNeil story. The cemetery is quite old too. It contains a couple of graves that cause Ned McNeil a great deal of trouble.

Each of us has a lasting legacy, continuing even after we die. One of the people lying in that church yard has the power to stir things up in Ednalee, Oklahoma, although it has been a few decades since he passed over. But, enough about that.

I promised you a mini-mystery at the end of my blog and here it is: What was the first pet I can remember? No, it wasn’t a dog or a cat or even a chicken. It was a lamb! A woolly sheep by the name of Louie. I really loved that little fellow. And, I think he loved me.

Another mystery: Why did I have my tongue sticking out in almost every picture when I was small? Maybe I was concentrating too hard?
