Thunder woke me again this morning and, even at this late hour of 6 a.m., it’s still dark! The trees are restless, moving and murmuring under a dark sky. An intrepid dove calls from the back yard. I hope he found shelter in the honeysuckle vine. I imagine that most of the birds are in their nests, hovering over their babies who are safe and warm and don’t care whether it’s raining or not.
The weatherman says we are in some sort of cycle of rain, intermittent non-rain, wind, and more rain. All this moisture is wonderful for the trees, grass, vegetables and flowers. For those of my family who grow vegetable gardens, it is hard to find the ground dry enough to hoe weeds or plow. However, I’d much rather have rain as hot and dry weather. Some past Junes have come in hot and dry and the summer stayed that way. From all that I’m hearing, we may be in a cooling cycle, which is a normal weather pattern. The earth grows a little warmer; the earth grows a little cooler; that’s the way it has always been. Of course, there have been times of much colder than normal temperatures known as a mini Ice Age. Those are not good. When the weather isn’t warm enough to grow crops, people starve.
Rain is invigorating, story-inspiring, and at the same time soothing. So why, during this wet season, have I come down with allergies? Sneezing, wheezing, itchy eyes and runny nose, the whole works. This isn’t like me and I can’t figure it out.
However, we all know that a rainy day is a perfect time to read and/or write. I’m looking forward to Barbara’s and my three Darcy/Flora cozy mysteries which are coming out this fall. The first two, The Cemetery Club and Grave Shift will be newly edited, new formats, new cover pictures while the third book, Best Left Buried will see the light of day for the first time ever. In the meantime, I’m keeping on with Moonlight Can Be Murder which will be the start of a new series with a new protagonist and setting. I’m also working on a devotional book based on early-day Etta Bend in Cherokee County, Oklahoma.
I’m thankful for the rain. And, since the Lord promised He would’t cover the whole earth with a flood any more, I’m not worried. How would one start about building an ark, anyway?
Your ‘new’ books sound very exciting! I’m looking forward to seeing the new formats, covers, etc. and especially Moonlight can be Murder. No, building an ark now would be quite impossible although Jesus did say the times would be very similar!
I’m looking forward to your seeing the “new” books, too, Sharon. I hope you like them. Writing Moonlight Can Be Murder is fun. Have you decided yet whether there’ll be more Parson’s Cove books?
My brain is working on another Historical Fiction. It takes much longer for me to get one of those written. If I find I need a break from it, I will probably put Mabel back to work!
Well, let’s hope your brain is going to need a break! I like Mabel. Your historical fiction will be great too, though.
