Blue Cold Blues

Blue Cold Blues

If anybody asks how I’m liking this winter’s weather, my answer is ready: I don’t. Yesterday was such a cold, blustery, wintry day! Instead of getting warmer, the temperature sank all day! And this morning, handfuls of cold, dry, rice pellet snow lie here and there on ground and deck. If the groundhog has a lick of sense, he won’t even consider sticking his nose out of his nice, warm lair today.

Nevertheless, this intrepid author, ferried by my son and chauffeur Matt, braved the elements to go to the Rogers Library for a two-hour “Meet the Author” Sunday afternoon. The library is new (or it looked new to me) roomy, and staffed with knowledgeable, helpful people. What better place to get in out of the cold than a library?

I met several people including a lovely lady named Elaine who bought The Cemetery Club. Believe it or not, she took it home and read it last night. She had glowing words about it and is ordering Grave Shift and Best Left Buried. Thank you, Elaine! She also is a new subscriber to this blog.

So, that was my first marketing effort for the month. In about a week, another Pen-L author, Janet Brown will post her interview with me on her website. But then, that’s next week. Maybe it’ll be warmer then. Maybe the sun will shine. Maybe the winter glooms will have gone back to wherever they came from. Maybe the Blue Cold Blues will be miraculously changed into sunny, blue-skied sunshine. Who knows? One can always hope.

  1. Good for you, Blanche. I met an author at Kroger’s on Saturday. Not sure how it went for her but she gave me a bookmark with all her info on it so will have to check it out. She doesn’t write cozies though.

  2. She seemed to have quite a variety. One was historical fiction which I will check out. She had a couple of young adult books and a coffee table book. Also, two children’s books. She looked very lonely! Her eyes lit up when she saw me coming over. We were in a rush though so didn’t get to talk much. I hope she sold something.

I sold one children’s story years ago. They say it’s very hard to get a children’s book published. There are so many out there and I wonder how some even were published in the first place!!

    • Congratulations on selling the story. I think my first children’s story was to Cricket Magazine way back when I was teaching kindergarten. I’ve sold several poems and a couple of rhymed stories that were a lot of fun to write and even more fun to see how the magazine illustrated them.

Did you ever try selling a story to Reminisce? I don’t know if it is still being published. A wonderful magazine for us oldies. I had a story published there a few years ago. It was about my father selling Watkins products back in the 50’s. You get a small check but also a 1957 model Chevy convertible!
