Back to Normalcy

Back to Normalcy

As I gaze out into the early morning darkness at my neighbor’s and my solar lights in our front yards, I have a feeling of returning to normalcy. The sound of cars tires on asphalt on I-540 means that people are up and moving, going to and from jobs, perhaps traveling somewhere for a visit. I often wonder about those nameless people whose cars I hear every morning. Who are they? Why are they up so early? And, being a dreamer, I compare their mode of travel to the travel of my grandparents and great-grandparents. I imagine if they were going some place in their wagon or buggy, with horses hitched in front, and they met another traveler, they would wave or say hello, maybe stop to talk a few minutes. Today, we have no idea of the hundreds of people zipping toward us or past us in cars. They are in a hurry to get somewhere and so are we. Different time, different customs.

Most of the snow melted yesterday and the temperature this morning is a balmy 39 degrees. It is a good day to get back into exercise class, and, of course, any day is a good day to write.

Last year, I wrote a children’s make-believe story about a fox and the first Christmas. I wrote it for my grandchildren and my dear friend Linda’s grandchildren. I believe this might be a good time of year to put it on as two or three blog posts.  So, tomorrow, the first installment! If it bears some resemblance to a couple of previous children’s stories, that’s because they were all written by the same author–me!

Do you ever wonder about things for which there are no answers? I do. One of the things I wonder about is why don’t I hear that wonderful blessing found in Numbers 6:24-26 repeated over a congregation or a family any more? It would be nice if parents would take the time to bless their children with it every morning before they started out the door to begin their day. This morning, I ask God’s blessing to fall on each of you, my readers, and that you have a wonderful day.

“The Lord bless thee, and keep thee; The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee; The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.”
