I anxiously scanned the skies which, by the way, were sort of solid, all-over gray. Was it really coming? Hard to believe, but the temperature was certainly low enough. Finally, around 12:30, it arrived–those first flakes settling in, making themselves at home. Marking the occasion on top of the picnic table seemed like a good idea. It was a perfect day for the fireplace and a good, hot family meal. Granted, the snow didn’t last long, but it is rather unusual to have snow before Thanksgiving. However, believe it or not, long ago in Oklahoma snow fell by Halloween. But, that’s another story.
The snow on the ground is still with us this morning but I hear my container garden fountain running. Other water in the bird baths freezes solid but so far, the water in the fountain just ices around the edges. Maybe it will keep flowing all winter so the birds and a few meandering cats can follow their ears to a drink of water.
Whether it’s cold and snowy and icy and frigid or not, a writer must write and, hopefully, a writer must sell. Do you remember those beautiful sell sheets? I left one at our city library Friday and today I’ll try to stop at a few bookstores, maybe another library and leave one, hoping that they find the books so irresistible that they must order from the publisher.
Speaking of the Darcy and Flora Cozy Mysteries, I am extending the trivia contest through Friday. After all, Wednesday is not a great deal of time to try to ferret out answers.
May your day be blessed with many wonderful surprises and the warm, exciting feeling that holding a new book brings!
