An Old Lady and a Horse

Evangeline Carver loved race horses. She entered one each year in the Kentucky Derby. Although she was well into her eighties when Ned met her, she still loved to ride. She rode a little mare named Melanie. She and Melanie had been best friends for over twenty years. But one day, on a short ride into the pasture, something happened. Something drastic which changed things forever at Carver Farms.

Ned had only met Evangeline but the two seemed to really hit it off. Ned liked the feisty old lady and her unorthodox plans for her estate after she died. But, the things she kept learning about Evangeline (in her girlhood, she was known as Eva) didn’t set well with her. Amazing things, rather unpleasant things. However, Ned knew that in her heart, Evangeline had meant well. She had given Ned a charge and, although Ned might not be able to carry it out, she was surely able to see that evildoers had no part in the destiny of Evangeline’s legacy.
