One of my favorite cozy mystery writers is Mignon F. Ballard. I believe I’ve read all her books. I was excited to learn that she’ll have a brand new cozy coming in August. This book will be special and I’ll tell you why. Mignon writes the Miss Dimple series and also the Augusta Goodnight, Angel series, plus several stand alone books. Her upcoming release, Miss Dimple and the Slightly Bewildered Angel, will combine Augusta with Miss Dimple. I can hardly wait! I asked Mignon for permission to reprint part of the newsletter she sent me.
Dear Readers,
Should I, or shouldn’t I? Okay, I’ll admit I had my reservations. How would my two series characters react if I put them together in a book?
Hesitant at first, I jumped in with a splash and found the water to be just fine. From the first sentence, I knew that bringing my fictional friends together was going to be fun as well as exciting. And it was! I hope you’ll agree.
Accustomed to taking charge when necessary, both are just a shade on the bossy side. Of course neither will admit it.
Finding herself in the 1940’s is nothing new for Augusta. She has been there before, but she is slightly bewildered about the reason for her present assignment. Ditto that for Miss Dimple who opens the door one frosty October morning to a stranger with glorious hair and a handbag as big as a boxcar. A bit fey, Dimple thinks, but the newcomer’s culinary skills turn out to be heavenly. And so she stays.
And then, of course, there’s the body. Hard to have a mystery without one, but no novices here, and reluctantly, (at least on Dimple’s part) the two team up to find the murderer.
Naturally, friends at Phoebe’s boarding house and an assortment of Elderberry’s townsfolk pitch in to help. But Augusta faces an additional challenge. As Dimple points out, Augusta might not recognize the difference between a willow oak and a water oak, but she does detect a sorrowful burden long-concealed in Dimple’s past, and finds a way to bring healing to her heart.
MISS DIMPLE AND THE SLIGHTLY BEWILDERED ANGEL will be available from St. Martin’s Minotaur Aug. 2 in hardcover and e book form.
