After the Ball Is Over

After the Ball Is Over

There’s an old song, After the Ball Is Over; well, the two free days of Moonlight Can Be Murder ended at midnight last night. It was a huge success! I can hardly wait for my publisher to tell me how many books went out and to what areas. Thank you for downloading. I feel that Ned McNeil has made many new friends. And, the ball isn’t really over because the fun goes on with Ned McNeil and Darcy Campbell and Flora Tucker.

Yesterday, that storm I talked about did indeed roll in. We had blinding rain for a few minutes then it settled into a nice, steady shower. The ditch alongside the street was rolling. When the children were small, we’d sail leaf boats down that creek after a rain, but yesterday, the water would have been far too turbulent. Besides, there was lightning and we didn’t get outside when the heavens were dueling with light sabers.

It was a wonderful day. My family was here for lunch. What did we have? I’m glad you asked! Please don’t censure it for not being balanced; it was mostly home-cooked and it was good: homemade meatballs and spaghetti, hot biscuits with butter, lettuce salad, celery with cream cheese and raisins, apples, corn, and for dessert, homemade peach cobbler.

After my family left, Nemo (who is still fretful about wearing that dismal cone) and I settled down for a night of reading. Nemo doesn’t relish books like I do, but he is good company and bears with the occasional comment when something strikes me as particularly noteworthy. At the moment, I’m reading Pouncing on Murder by Laurie Cass. I really enjoy her books. If you read cozy mysteries, I’m sure you’ll like her books about a librarian who lives on a houseboat with her cat.

I love hearing from you, my readers. Yesterday, a new reader subscribed to this blog and wrote an encouraging note about how she was enjoying Moonlight Can Be Murder. Thank you, Trish, for taking time to write. You really brightened my day.

More rain and storms are forecast for today, so you know what that means! It’s a perfect time for a cup of coffee and a good mystery. Is there a better sound in nature than rain on the roof?

  1. I was hoping this was the title to one of your new stories. I love both sets of your books, but I really feel a connection to Ned!

    • Than you so much for writing! I’m glad you enjoy reading the cozies, and feel a connection with Ned. I’m working on a new Ned book.. After the Ball Is Over would be a good title wouldn’t it?
