A Winter Morning

It’s cold this morning, but not as cold as one year ago when the temperature was a shivery two degrees! The winter birds are enjoying the squirrel-proof feeder and I enjoy watching them enjoy it! Juncos, chickadees, finches, and cardinals–they need the oil in the black sunflower seeds, especially in this weather.

Last night, the wolf moon shone down on a snowy world, cold and beautiful. Why is it called the wolf moon? Perhaps because those wild creatures are lending their voices in praise of that silver orb in the sky. Perhaps not. Wolves may have their own reasons. Maybe it’s harder for them to find food this time of year and they are voicing their displeasure.

Snow still covers the north side of my neighbors’ roofs. Lots of patches of white dot the lawns. This was a moist snow that  children found just right for building snowmen. I know for sure that many of them took their sledding boards and had some wild rides down the hill in the park. If I were a few years younger, I would have been one of them!

  1. I agree, snowy landscapes under full moons are so beautiful! And mysterious, as you know. đŸ˜€

  2. Yes, they are, especially in Moonlight Can Be Murder which, by the way, takes place during December.
