I can think of no better way to end an old year or begin a new year than with my family. My creative daughter-in-law had gingerbread house kits on the table. She also had a yummy spread of finger foods on the counter. We ate and then put together some of the sweetest little houses you’ll find anywhere. Mine, thankfully, stayed together, finally, and with a mighty effort, I kept from eating the gumdrop shrubbery. I did, however, nibble on a licorice whip windowpane.
Then, it was showtime. My grandchildren pulled apart a couple of Christmas crackers, finding ideas for charades and riddles inside. They were in charge of the questions and answers and trying to stump their parents. It was a fun time, a memorable time with lots of laughter.
Did I stay up to welcome 2022? Well, let’s just say I woke up a few minutes after midnight and heard some zealous neighbors shoot off some fireworks.
Then, today, of course, my family and I will eat black-eyed peas. It’s bound to bring good luck to this unknown year.
Weatherwise, it’s raining and, guess what? After lunch, temperatures will drop and drop and there’s a possibility of snow. Tomorrow, we probably won’t get above freezing. But, that’s the ending of an old year here in NW Arkansas for my family and me and I couldn’t ask for a better one.
This isn’t one of our houses, but it’s similar.
ThaNks for sharing, Blanche! Sounds like a great way to end the old, n bring in the new! Blessings for 2022 headed your way! Linda Lord
