If they were people, I’d say they were getting together for an early morning cup of coffee and a chat. As they were birds, the coffee doesn’t quite apply and the chat wasn’t all that friendly.
Each morning, around 7:30, birds come to my two bird baths in the front yard. This morning, the robins were the first ones there. Then came a bossy cardinal who took over a bird bath and wasn’t at all nice to the robins. Next, a blue jay decided he was boss of the yard and needed the water all to himself. What a gathering!
Later, a busy little wren bustled in. Not squabbling with anyone, but seriously looking for tidbits on the grape vine, she pecked here and there, peeked in the window at me, then went on to think about fall and flying south, no doubt.
It’s nice to see the birds first thing each morning. They all need a good drink of water to start the day, whereas I need a good cup of coffee. Or maybe two cups or more. It’s a nice way to start a crisp fall day.
I love watching our neighbor’s bird bath next door. They have so much fun! As for coffee, I gave it up years ago. Too rough in my delicate stomach.
Birds are a lot of fun. They have individual personalities. Bluejays are boisterous. Wrens are busy and tend to keep to themselves.
