I think that, instead of “musings”, this blog could aptly be called “meanderings” because my mind is going in four different directions this morning. For one thing, the cold snap did materialize and all I can say is Brrrr. I usually stay cold until June and this year, it may be July before I thaw out. The azaleas are blooming, the lilac is lovely and the container garden plants have all settled in but they might begin to feel unwelcome with temperatures in the mid 30s.
Yesterday’s Bible study at church was a blessing. These studies have brought to life the people appearing in the pages of the Bible. To me, they have become more real, acting and reacting much as we do today. Only thing is, when God’s hand touches lives, miraculous things happen. The Old Testament is a herald, crying out a message of hope to struggling people: the Lord is coming. Get ready. The New Testament shines with the miraculous birth of God’s Son, the Creator who walked among us. His life, death and resurrection changed the hearts of people of His day and He is still changing lives today. As in the Old Testament, the New Testament tells us that the Lord is coming again and we had better be ready.
Our moderator reminded us that a Christian lives in grace, the grace of the Lord Jesus. Picking up my sin and guilt again after Salvation is turning my back on the cross and focusing on myself. I am not to camp out at the mountain of condemnation. I am to go forward, my eyes on the Lord, and rest and rejoice that all sins, past, present and future are forgiven. These are thoughts that make my heart soar, that give me hope. And I must have hope.
A cold mist peppers down in the darkness before dawn just as it did yesterday so the solar lights are a bit pale this morning. If it weren’t for the trees’ new green leaves and the colorful flowers, I would say that it’s March. The calendar, however, tells me otherwise, and I suspect it is right. Mixed in with the chill and dampness is the hope that today the sun will shine.
Some time during your busy day or night, perhaps you will have time to settle down in your favorite spot with your companionable Kindle and open a copy of Grave Shift. Books have a way of warming the coldest day.
