A Cup of Coffee, a Good Book..

My family frequents the library. So do I. Libraries have always been one of my favorite places because so many of my friends live there–books!! On another website, a writer and I chatted about libraries. She said she feels very comfortable in a library. So do I.  There I can meet with Jim Qilleran (Lilian Jackson Braun), Annie and Max Darling (Carolyn Hart), Augusta Goodnight (Mignon Ballard), the people of the Indigo Tea Shop of Charleston (Laura Childs), or the whimsical people of the Land Between the Lakes (Susan Wittig Albert). Of course, there are thousands of others but these are among my favorites. And I take these wonderful people home with me for a visit!

Oh! And lest I forget: in the Fayetteville and Springdale libraries, you will find two books by that intrepid, imaginative duo, Blanche Day Manos and Barbara Burgess: The Cemetery Club and Grave Shift.  If you haven’t already become acquainted with Darcy Campbell and her mom Flora Tucker, I think you will enjoy meeting them and hopefully, becoming fast friends.  By the way, if you would like to be able to find my books at your local library, let me know and I’ll contact the librarian.

My son and daughter-in-law make a trip to the library a family outing. The children love it! I began taking Sara to Story Time when she was barely old enough to go. Was it 2 or 3 years of age? It is a happy, inviting place for Nathan too and he enjoys going.

Whether we are blessed with this world’s goods or whether we aren’t, the library is a place where everyone is welcome and everyone finds something to their reading taste. The wonderful part is that it’s free. If the library doesn’t have a book you’re looking for, they gladly order through the library exchange or tell you where you’re apt to find it.

It is encouraging to me, in this world of high tech that so many people still throng book stores and libraries. Maybe it’s the atmosphere of being among so many old friends, maybe it’s the excitement of finding a new writer that speaks to us, maybe it’s being among other people who share a joy of reading. Or could it be the scent of coffee in one particular bookstore? (Well, that’s always enticing.)

There’s nothing better than settling down back in your own comfortable recliner, a cup of coffee or glass of tea at hand, and delve into the pages of a book. Or, in the case of us ebook writers and readers,  relaxing with our laptop or tablet and, for only $2.99, lose ourselves in a cozy mystery. I sometimes think of my tablet as a library or sorts, with so many ebooks on it.

Whatever your taste in reading, we are indeed blessed with libraries and blessed with books. It’s one of those free-for-the-asking pleasures of life.

  1. As a former librarian now writing cozies, I love that you love libraries! (I’m wrapping up the revisions now on my first cozy… the series is called The Curious Librarian and our Library Director kindly modeled for the cover.)
