What’s With That Cold, Winter Sun?

What’s With That Cold, Winter Sun?

Moonlight can be deceptive, but so can sunlight. Yesterday, the sun and clear blue sky could have lulled an unsuspecting person into thinking the day was warm. But, nay and forsooth! Such was not the case. I lit the fireplace and each of the Cozy Critters came in wearing a jacket.

As I thought, everyone had been busy reading, writing, and painting. And, going to meetings! Some of the cozies Peg has read or is reading include Twelve Angry Librarians from the Cat in the Stacks series by Miranda James, Mission Impawsable by Krista Davis, and Death By Chocolate Lab by Bethany Blake. She had high praise for all these books but one in particular, and for the life of me, I can’t remember which one, she said was a cozy that was written just the way cozies should be written.

Jane has been busily working on her church directory and doing a fine job of it. This will be a lasting commemorative of the year, time, and place for church members. She also finished her sweet poem about a toothpick, Heavenly Clue. This was a reflection of love and faith. One of these days, maybe Jane will put all her poems into a book. That would be delightful reading.

Carolyn brought a birthday card she had painted for Jane . It was as cute as could be, picturing a little girl and her cat on a wood fence. Carolyn read a real life story about an outhouse and a bull, and how, a long time ago, that ornery rascal had her cornered in the little necessary house. She also read to us about a dollhouse her mom made. That wonderful doll house has been played with by four generations of children.

Nancy is fresh back from Manhattan, Kansas, where she gave a seminar on her book, The Grace Impact.  It was the 40th year for this women’s conference and Nancy happily met old friends and re-established contacts. She currently has an article, “Are you Stressed or Blessed”  in Just Between Us Magazine. This popular magazine has a circulation of 8,000 worldwide.

I showed the group the proposed cover for By the Fright of the Silvery Moon, sequel to  Moonlight Can Be Murder.  Their sharply-honed critiquing eyes saw right away a few things that would further enhance the picture. Then the discussion turned to possible titles for a third Moonlight book. It would, of course, have to do with moonlight or moonbeams or something nocturnal. This is when the discussion got pretty wild.

If you haven’t yet read Moonlight Can Be Murder and would like to have it under your belt before Fright is released, you can find it at Pen-L., Amazon, or Barnes and Noble.

A word of encouragement from Flora Tucker, who has nothing at all to do with the Moonlight books but a whole lot to do with the Darcy and Flora cozies: “Words are powerful things. They can heal or they can wound. But, before you get all in a tizzy thinking somebody has said something to purposely hurt, remember if you feel bad or are worried or need to sit down to a good, home-cooked dinner, sometimes the best-intentioned words sound like barbs. So, just let them slide off like water off a duck’s back.”
