Today, I am announcing a small contest which involves your comment and my cup. Read on. As I am finishing By the Fright of the Silvery Moon, I am more aware of something that I’ve suspected for quite some time: Manos Meadows Mysteries sometimes are not all that cozy. I mean, they certainly have their cozy moments, but they also have scenes that are shiver-inducing, the kind where you want to turn on every light in the house and sleep goes out the window. So, what are the Manos Mysteries? I’ve decided they are cozies with a little extra shiver.
Ned McNeil, the heroine in Moonlight Can Be Murder and By the Fright of the Silvery Moon lives alone in a Victorian house set back from the street at the end of a long driveway. Her only companion is Penny, a small but personable cat. That is, Penny is her only companion until recently, but more about that in Fright.
Ned’s Uncle Javin had a final request in his will; he asked Ned to write a history about Granger’s Mansion. “It’s an interesting house.” he said. That’s where the trouble comes in. The house is indeed interesting, more so than Ned would have thought.

I enjoy cozy mysteries because they aren’t as graphic as mystery thrillers. Sure there is some fright factor – that’s what holds a reader’s interest. You have to have a little bit of scare to make it mystery so keep it coming. robeader53(at)yahoo(dot)com

I love all kinds of cozy mysteries, and agree that some scary plot lines are absolutely necessary. I’ve read hundreds of cozies, and the Darcy/Flora series holds their own with the best of them. I am so looking forward to the publication of the next Ned book.
