Glancing out of my window at a movement across the street, I saw a squirrel galloping…not scurrying nor scampering, but in a full-fledged gallop toward the maple tree in my neighbor’s yard. His frantic pace was not the only thing different about the squirrel–the tip of his tail was white. Never, in all my years, have I seen a squirrel with a white tip on his tail.
As Christmas nears, the pace increases and I feel rather like that squirrel. Have I neglected a few things, like baking and making candy? Do those Christmas stockings look fat enough? How can I keep a clean floor with leaves blowing in each time the door is opened?
With the encouragement of my grandchildren, I made some fudge and chocolate chip cookies. The cookies didn’t last long enough to get a good picture, but the fudge will be with us a few more days. You can’t beat the aroma of fudge bubbling on the burner. My mother used to make divinity at Christmas. Maybe I’ll add that to things to do.
Do you have a special recipe you make each year? Is there a family tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation? What, to you, is the best thing about Christmas morning?
The temperature this morning is a balmy thirty degrees. The sun is shining, the sky is blue (I over-slept and the sun beat me up.) Will we have a white Christmas here in NW Arkansas? Is it snowy where you live? Or, do you make a special effort to be out of the snow and in a sunnier place at this time of year?
Last night, I saw a program about Christmas in New Orleans. Have any of you experienced that?
No matter your Christmas preferences, I hope you have peace, joy, and love in your hearts. And, by the way, whether it is snowy or sunny, when the pace slows down a little, and you feel the need to relax, pick up a cozy mystery, pour a cup of coffee, and settle into your favorite chair. You’ll always find a warm welcome.
