Upside-Down Sort of Day

Upside-Down Sort of Day

This day is starting upside-down, temperature-wise. But, that’s all right. Yesterday, the wind blew like a storm all day. Warm temperatures, cloudless sky with gales. I’m glad I took a picture of my beautiful golden maple because this morning a lot of those leaves are on the ground and the wind is still gusting. The temperature is 65 but rain is supposed to arrive in fifteen minutes and, instead of rising, the thermometer will be dropping to a “high” of 45. Strange, huh?

Exciting news on the book front! My publisher sent the audio book version of Grave Heritage. I am to listen and tell him if I agree with its rendering or if I detect anything that needs to be sharpened. It’s fun to hear my words read back to me.

Agnes II sits on the fireplace hearth, safe from future frosts. She is regal in her green, lacy gown and, through the summer, has branched out and grown. Agnes I was over thirty years old when she finally succumbed two years ago. Sara and I were sad and determined to get a replacement. You see, the Agnes ladies are actually Asparagus Ferns and we are rather partial to them.

As Thanksgiving nears, I think of all the many blessings God has given me. My family tops my list of blessings and under them are far too many to count. I’d be sure to leave out some if I started writing them so I’ll just mention a few. Each time I buy groceries, which is a job I dislike, I’m thankful for the money to buy them. Many people are struggling. When I have to pay for house repairs, I’m thankful that I have a house; there are those who don’t. I’m also thankful for the blessing of writing. It’s fun to create a cozy mystery out of thin air. And, boy! Am I thankful for coffee!

A black-capped Chickadee just lit in the crepe myrtle outside my window. He probably is wondering where his sunflower seeds are. Wild birds are a blessing too, beautiful and interesting, and a whole lot of fun to watch. The least I can do is feed them. And now, a titmouse has joined them. They seem to be eating some sort of bud from the crepe myrtle. What a pretty picture they make!
