This is the National Day of Prayer. Our country needs prayers as never before. These ancient, beautiful words are so very true today when we see the bedrock values that have always been our base as a country being turned upside down. “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (II Chronicles 7:14).
Wednesday, yesterday, was Fran’s monthly luncheon and I didn’t get to go!! An old injury flared up, namely the leg I broke five years ago. So, rather than hobbling and moaning and groaning and muttering and being a cranky old lady, I stayed home. Fran, however, the generous spirit and caring person that she is, sent a food package by way of Peg. The corn chowder, taco soup, and jello/cottage cheese salad was enough to lift anyone’s spirits and soothe the disgruntled leg. Peg and I had a nice visit besides. So, the day turned out well. Thank you, Peg and Fran.
Another thing that brightens any writer’s day is signing a book contract! Yesterday, I signed a contract with Pen-L Publishing for two more cozy mysteries! These will be continuations of the Ned McNeil series. The first book of that series is Moonlight Can Be Murder. The second book, Fright of the Silvery Moon, is in the works. The publication date for the fourth Darcy and Flora cozy, Grave Heritage, is tentatively set for September with another Darcy and Flora to follow. So, your humble cozy mystery writer will be busily tapping out mysterious doings on my trusty computer. By the way, Duke and Kimberly Pennell are great to work with, ever courteous, ever encouraging.
Here is great news for those who already own the Kindle edition of Grave Shift: Amazon says you can own the audio version of Grave Shift, Whispersync for Voice, for only $1.99. If you’d like to take Darcy and Flora along with you when you drive, or any other time you can’t stop to pick up a book but would like to hear an engrossing mystery, this would be a savings for you. Perhaps this is a prelude to the audio version of the third Darcy and Flora cozy, Best Left Buried, which will be released as an audio book one day soon.
Sunday is Mother’s Day, a great way to celebrate and remember Mom. In honor of that, the next three posts will be about some outstanding mothers and their influence with outstanding children. All our mothers are special, aren’t they? No one can ever take their place in the hearts of their children and there is no other job on earth that is nearly as important as being a mother. None!
As I’ve meandered in my circuitous way from luncheon to books and contracts to Mother’s Day, morning has slipped in and chased away night shadows. A new day dawns and hope rises with the sun. This is the day the Lord has made. Yesterday is gone. You and I can’t change it, but we have today! Try to lighten someone’s burden today. We all have them, burdens, that is. But a load shared is only half as heavy. Happy Thursday!
“A load shared is only half as heavy.” Last night at Bible study I shared my fears about my upcoming knee replacement. As we prayed, my burden was indeed lightened (by the prayers of several friends). Today I have several pains and was discouraged until I shared them with Tim; however, my burdens became 10 times lighter when I shared them with God!
Teresa, I’m so glad you have a prayhing church. Your Aunt Blanche is praying for you too.
Blanche, you’re most welcome, it was a pleasure to send you comfort food!
I hope you’re feeling better today! We’ve been praying!
And congratulations!
Fran, I’m so much better today, thank you. I’m getting around, just taking my cane in case I need it but I haven’t really. Thank you for the comfort food and for your prayers.
