First thing I do every morning is make coffee. How about you? The fragrance of hot brew permeates the whole house. My sense of smell tells me what’s going on in the kitchen.
Besides the actual aroma of a flavorful drink, do you ever sense other things? A child’s frown, an adult’s thoughtful expression say that something else is brewing, something I can’t smell or feel but is real, nonetheless.
I sometimes drag my feet about making a visit or attending an event because I just have a bad feeling about it. Contrariwise, at times, I can hardly wait to see a special person or group or enjoy a happy experience. And then, there are those uneasy, restless, uncertain times when I feel that something is about to happen and it is not necessarily good.
Today, we have storms in our forecast. This happens every spring and I should be used to it. I like a good thunderstorm that bangs and thunders to sort of clear the air but I do not like destructive winds and hail or floods. Who would? Funny thing, though, the air feels odd before a store. Maybe it’s something at work in the atmosphere that I feel but don’t see.
Darcy Campbell, Flora Tucker, and Ned McNeil are atune to charged feelings whether weather-related or something else, some sixth sense that alerts them to danger. For example, in Grave Heritage, both Darcy and Flora have a feeling that something is about to happen. That night, a stranger appears on their porch during a terrific storm and the stranger…well, let’s just say his future was abbreviated.
And then, in Moonlight Can Be Murder, Ned has a sinking feeling when she arrives at Granger Mansion and all is dark and forbidding.
But, hey! That’s only fiction and hopefully, this real-life day, night, and tomorrow will not have anything bad lurking in them. And if a storm happens, remember that’s an open invitation to grab a cup of coffee, prop your feet up, and tuck into your favorite cozy mystery. In a mystery, something is certain to be brewing and it’s not always the coffee. ——————————————————————————If you are about to make a trip and dreading the boredom of driving or flying, take Darcy and Flora with you! Both The Cemetery Club and Grave Shift are audio books and Best Left Buried is soon to be in audio form too.
A bonus feature of the ebook, The Cemetery Club is that it is 99 cents on Amazon.
Hope you didn’t get a bad storm! I do love to listen to a storm too.
Thanks, Sharon. The storm hasn’t reached us yet. It’s still coming. I hope it isn’t bad too.
I’m like you, I don’t want destruction, but I don’t mind a good storm…it’s a reminder of God’s great power…now I like that
Me too, Jan.
We enjoyed a brief thunderstorm two nights ago. Thunder in the mountains is awesome as it echoes between canyons and mountains. We love it!
I’ll bet it really is awesome! What a neat experience.
