We Three Were the Bees’ Knees

We Three Were the Bees’ Knees

Truly, spring has sprung. Last night we had tornado watches, warnings, and the first spring storm. I’m afraid part of the state may have suffered damage. Keep your eye on the sky, everyone. Stay safe!

To borrow a phrase from the Roaring Twenties we were the bee’s knees yesterday. That was Jane, Helen and yours truly. We missed Peg, Carolyn, and Nancy at our cozy critique and hope they’ll be back next time. Anyway, I think we laughed and talked and critiqued enough for six people!Bumble (2)

Helen brought four inspirational articles for us to review: Who are You Following? A Speeding Ticket, Good Works Prepared For Us, and Who Are You Doing This For?

Jane and I were thrilled to find our names in the first article. All of Helen’s devotions are based on real life and Who Are You Following was particularly meaningful to us because it involved a hilarious situation.

Jane read an original poem which she had beautifully illustrated. Let Little Creatures Live will make a delightful children’s book. Jane is one of those multi-talented people who can write poetry, prose, draw, and paint. For that matter, Helen is gifted not only in writing but in playing the piano, crocheting, and sewing. So you can see why I refer to this group as “the bees’ knees.”

I read a possible excerpt from the second Moonlight cozy mystery, I asked for their opinions as to what to include and what to leave out. This was, maybe, a part of the next book. And then again, maybe not.

Pat moaned. “I didn’t mean to hit him that hard. Is he–is he dead?”

Kneeling beside the prone figure, I felt for a pulse.

“As a doornail,” I said, getting up and dusting off the knees of my jeans.

Jackie’s voice shook. “We’ve got to call Cade.”

“He’ll take me to jail. I know he will. The rest of my life I’ll be known as a jailbird. Oh, what will this do to Gerald? What will the people at church say?”

The longer Pat talked, the higher her voice rose.

“No, no, wait! Let’s think about this,” I said, sitting down on the well curb.

We three Critters munched on dark chocolate, sipped coffee, giggled over some recent escapades, and shared a few serious moments. Yesterday’s cozy critique was definitely the cat’s whiskers!

  1. I don’t know about any bees, but there was an ant and a spider!!!!

    • You are absolutely right, Helen. Both in Jane’s poem and in real life. However, I’m afraid the real life ones may have met untimely ends. Sigh.
