Yesterday was a cold, wet, dark day. Who could guess that the first day of spring is just around the corner? It felt like winter to me! A good antidote was gathering at Fran’s house for her springtime Retreat to refresh and refocus.
The day began with a yummy breakfast and a nice chat with friends. Conversations ranged from Janet’s dog who had an aromatic encounter with a skunk to Judy’s imminent move to Texas.
After breakfast, we moved to Fran’s living room for a video by Mary Kassian, Don’t Be a Wimp. It’s worth watching, if you’d like to follow the link. Mary spoke on seven things that can make women weak: 1. Tolerating creeps or any negative influence 2. Failing to guard our minds 3. Letting things pile up 4. Making poor choices 5. Being governed by our emotions 6. Wearing a religious mask and 7. Spinning our tires.
Mary gave remedies for each of these maladies and those remedies are found in the ancient words of Scripture. Women are not the only ones susceptible to being led away from God; men, too, face temptations. Since the Garden of Eden, the Evil One tries to keep us from the companionship and approval of God. The only way to win in this spiritual combat is to know what God says about each situation and to be careful that we do not slip into sin.
Fran played a recording of the beautiful song, Ancient Words which pretty well sums up where we should place our trust. The words were written a long time ago but they are as meaningful and up-to-date now as then. We need to not only know what God says; we must obey. He will keep us from sliding into worldly traps. He will keep up strong and vibrant. After all, who wants to be a wimp?
Thank you for this post with links included! I hope others take advantage of Mary Kassian’s excellent teaching! And what a special song that is!
Thank you for your outreach, Fran. Yes, the teaching is good and the song is really beautiful!
