I could hardly believe my eyes. There, across the street from my son and daughter-in-law, a dog stood on the ridge pole of a house.
“How did he get up there?” I asked.
As it turns out, there’s a wood pile or something against the back of the house. The dog climbs that and scrambles up as high as he can go. From there, he surveys his surroundings. Talk about a watch dog! Burglars, beware!
Or, perhaps, he is keeping an eye on the sky. Is he a weather-watcher? Will he sound the alarm if he sees ominous clouds approaching?
Maybe he is going to run for public office and wants to prove he can really be above the fray.
It could be that he is tired of being called a “mixed breed” and wants to prove that he is truly of an elevated pedigree.
Is he power-hungry and likes the feeling of superiority? If a tall building were handy, there would be no stopping him!
After a few minutes, the dog turns and ambles down the back side of the roof, soon being out of sight behind the house. Undoubtedly, he is, at heart, an explorer and an adventurer and simply likes to see what’s really going on beyond his earth-bound world.
Made my knees go wobbly just looking at the photo, Blanche. 🙂
Right! Mine too. I could hardly believe my eyes.
Yes, it is a good thing we found out.
Good thing you found out before calling 911 for a rescue! This startled me as well. I’ve seen our cat Max on our roof, but he’s a pretty good jumper. Never a dog.
I need to find a picture of our dog Gladys climbing a tree in Helotes. Some of the live oak trees grew at angles that allowed her to climb high! But, she was always afraid to come down! We spent many dark nights on our two acres looking for that sweet girl Unfortunately for her, but fortunately for us, the evergreens and aspens here grow straight up!
Isn’t it funny–some dogs just like to climb. Our dog, Lady, didn’t climb our dwarf apple tree, but she liked to pick apples off a low-hanging branch and eat them! I guess there’s a spirit of adventure in some dogs. I’m glad Gladys is not in danger of climbing trees there!
