A jogger trots up the hill in front of my house, dressed colorfully in red shorts and gray and black jacket, head band in place across his forehead.
Two squirrels are doing acrobatics, leaping from the white oak tree to the maple, flushing a downy woodpecker from among the maple’s limbs.
Across the street, more tulip tree blossoms drift to the ground, a pink carpet against my neighbor’s newly-green lawn. I’m thankful for the peace and beauty of this morning.
Spring must surely be here because ants have invaded my kitchen as they do each year at the first sign that winter is over. I’ve always admired the industry, architectural skills, and nursery organization of these small insects but I confess here and now that I admire them a whole lot more when they stay out of my territory and colonize the great outdoors, not my kitchen!
In the light of all the unrest, division, and herd mentality that is prevalent in many parts of the country, I’m glad for the unchanging security of God’s Word. One of my favorite verses: Some trust in chariots, and some trust in horses; but we will remember the name of the Lord our God (Psalm 20:7).
