The coffee is hot; the morning is quiet, a perfect time for a cozy chat with friends.
Although I’m in NW Arkansas and you are in various places around the country and around the world, we have a lot in common. In the first place, we like books and reading. In the second place, we may be just a wee bit partial to cozy mysteries.
I’m quite sure we love our families, our homes, and, if we have any, our pets. Some of us are retired; some are not. Some of us travel; some are home bodies. We don’t all look at life the same way but if we did, how boring that would be! Our backgrounds are all over the chart. Still, we respect and like each other and can talk about the one thing we all have in common: a love of books.
As I’m thinking about the books I write, I am considering starting a Darcy and Flora scrapbook. How in the world will I do that? I haven’t the slightest idea. If you do, please let me know. But, I think it would be fun, don’t you?
I have a fondness for well-written and beautifully illustrated children’s books. Maybe that’s because I read so many books to my son, Matt, even before he could understand them. I read to my grandchildren, I read to my kindergarteners. Warm, happy memories center around reading for me and, I hope, for the children. One of my favorite children’s authors, Patricia Polacco, will have a new book coming in September, Because of Thursday. It will be another winner, I’m sure. If you haven’t read Thunder Cake to a youngster, please do. It’s special.
Grave Heritage, the fourth Darcy and Flora cozy mystery, is due to be released some time this spring. I hope you enjoy it. One of my favorite parts of the book is when Darcy and her friend Amy discuss Grant. They reminisce about double dating and being asked to leave a drive-in theater. Fun!
A lot of blessings are crowding at my doorstep and, I hope, at your doorstep too. If your coffee has grown cool, pour another cup and settle in with a good book. It’s a perfect way to begin Saturday. As Darcy’s friend Amy said in Grave Heritage, “Life has no guarantees. We need to cherish those we love for what time we are allotted. The past is over and done with, Darcy. You can’t bring it back. No one is assured of the future. What we have is the present.”
So true. We were in Arkansas yesterday picking our daughter up from training. We were in Bentonville and went over to Eureka Springs then home. Don’t know if we were close to you or not but thought of you and we talked about your books. My daughter wants them now so new fan
Wonderful! Thank you, Deb. Bentonville isn’t far. I wish you could have dropped by.
Well maybe next time we can meet for coffee
That would be absolutely great! Be sure to phone, next time.
Dad used to say ‘A house without books is like a house without windows’.
He was absolutely right, Josephine for without books, how could we see outside of our own selves?
A scrapbook would be wonderful. If you need supplies, I have one whole closet dedicated to everything having to do with scrapbooking! I wish I had more time.
Thank you, Sharon. That would be wonderful but I too have a bunch of scrapbooking supplies. I just need the oomph to use them!
