Transitions

Transitions

There’s a new feeling in the air. It isn’t yet fall but it isn’t the middle of summer either. It’s a feeling of settling in, finishing one season and getting ready to begin another. It’s a feeling of transition.

Changes–life is full of them. My container garden looks different. Of course, there’s the nubs of the moss, the remains left from a voracious squirrel but the other flowers seem sort of quiet, as if they are reflecting on the past three months of sun and rain and growing. 007

The Dusty Miller is still exuberant. I’ve always liked that plant maybe because it is named after a person who was important once upon a time; the miller who ground wheat or corn into meal.002

The owl seems content to be on guard, no matter the season, and the frog 004atop a stump brought from Tahlequah, does look a bit less bright and shining than he did this spring but that’s all right. He may be older but no doubt, he’s wiser too. After all, he gleaned information from the squirrels or the occasional strolling cat and I’m sure the birds were full of news all summer as they perched above him and sometimes that diminishes the shine–a bit.005

The small reading angels, long ago gifts from Sara and Nathan, look sleepy but then, that’s what happens sometimes when one reads. It is a calming, drowsy activity.006

Even the water fountain sings a different song, a lullaby as the two small water carriers contemplate a winter of rest.008

Transitions, going from one season to the next, whether it’s nature or people, come to each of us. Darcy and Flora are transitioning too, settling in to their new home on Granny Grace’s acres. But, as you would expect, all is not going smoothly. It should have. It could have and probably would have if it were not for…but then, you’ll just have to read it to find out. My publisher suggested a title for this fourth book, Stirring the Plot. How do you feel about it? Can you think of another name that would tie in with the first three titles?

However your long weekend is shaping up, I hope it is pleasant and safe for all of you, for all of us. And, for goodness sake, don’t forget to have a good cozy mystery or two on hand. If there is any transition associated with a cozy, believe me, it is for the better.
