Things That Go Bump

Things That Go Bump

“What was that noise?” I asked Nemo.

He raised his head and perked up his ears.

“Was it a car door slamming?” I asked.

He had no opinion but seemed willing to go take a look so I peered out the window. Nope. No car. Then, I realized it must have been thunder.

“It’s okay,” I told my fearless protector. “Just some rain coming our way.”

But, it didn’t rain. We heard the rumbles a few more times but the clouds passed on, dissipating or changing locations or whatever it is that clouds do.

Have you ever been startled by a nameless sound, something that goes bump in the night, investigated, and didn’t find the right answer? Why are things always spookier after dark?

It gives me a fright when things out of sight go bumping and thumping around.

My limbs start to shake and I’m wide awake on hearing an Invisible Sound.

What could it be? I’m too frightened to see, so I stay covered up in my bed.

Will it go away? It may if I stay with my eyes closed and quilts on my head.

A Stormy Night
