From rivulets to rivers, streams in NW Arkansas and NE Oklahoma are brimming and, in some cases, running over. Last night, a tornado or a strong wind (I don’t know which) did quite a bit of damage in Gentry, Arkansas.
Liking to watch the weather, I am interested in the changes, the coolness, the wetness, the way the sky looks morning and evening. Weather lore abounds, including an old saying that it never rains nights in July. That must have been an observation from a long ago dry spell because I would say that it no longer holds true.
My neighbor (friend and Cozy Critter) Peg stopped a couple of days ago as she was driving past my house. There I was, in the rain, under a tree, with my umbrella and camera. With no lightning dancing about, I felt pretty safe but probably looked a little strange. Anxious to let her know I hadn’t completely lost my senses, I said, “I’m just taking a picture of this hole under the white mulberry tree.” I wonder why my explanation didn’t erase the puzzled look on her face? I guess after calling to ask why I was in standing in the middle of the street with a broom a few weeks ago, she wasn’t surprised by the rain and hole episode.
And the hole, although it does not show to great advantage in the picture, was pretty interesting.
It is very hard to get a picture of rain. I tried to snap a photo of the miniature river racing down the street and since that wasn’t very impressive, I got some of the container garden which, by the way, loves the rain.
The morning begins dark and damp again. Will we have more rain? Will the sun shine? Will the weekend actually be as beautiful as predicted? Only The Shadow knows. (Heh heh)
