For some reason, houses have always fascinated me, especially old houses, houses with character. On Pinterest, I have a board named “Houses With Character.” Pinterest.com/blanchemanos On that board is a house that is rather like Uncle Javin’s in my soon-to-be published book, Moonlight Can Be Murder. It is the house labeled “old Victorian homes”. Except, Uncle’s Javin’s house doesn’t have all that gingerbread trim and his house isn’t blue and there’s a sunroom/dining room added on. In fact, when I described the house where the first murder took place, I had another house in mind–a house that I know quite well in Tahlequah.
Darcy and Flora’s newly-built house outside of Levi, Oklahoma, has a wrap-around porch. Uncle Javin’s house has an inviting, smaller porch about half the width of his house. It is a high porch and Nettie has to climb several steps before pushing open that squeaky front door the night she arrives in December. Only thing is, the house is dark and when she steps into the living room, no one is there to greet her.
Darcy and Flora’s house has two fireplaces, one at either end of the house. Uncle’s Javin’s has two fireplaces also but one is upstairs, directly above the dining room fireplace. I like the sunroom in Uncle Javin’s house. It is warm and inviting. Nettie likes to sit here with her friends Pat and Jackie and try to ravel out the dark mystery that surrounds Granger’s Mansion (another name for Uncle Javin’s house.)
Anyway, I hope you’ll enjoy this Victorian home as much as I do and wander through it with me, upstairs and downstairs. I can hardly wait for you to see it. Only a few more months!
