Rain falls this morning. Oklahoma had more rain last night. So did Arkansas.
It must be that rhubarb is ripe now. I’ve been seeing rhubarb recipes on the web. Mom used to make yummy rhubarb pies. Sweet, yet tangy. One of my favorites.
This, I’m assuming, is ‘possum weather because ‘possum stories abound. A friend in Fayetteville told me that her dogs found three or four young ‘possums in her back yard. A young ‘possum came to visit my brother Richard’s battery shop. He saw signs of it and thought a rat had invaded, so he set a live trap (my brother has a soft spot for all animals.) He was surprised to find a half-grown ‘possum in his trap so he took him far away from his shop and turned him loose where the young explorer will have a better life, away from cars on a busy highway.
Another ‘possum story: one year my mother set a basket of apples in her cellar and left them there all winter. When she opened the cellar door the next spring, a gray and white, well-fed and very clean ‘possum waddled up the steps toward her. Evidently, he had fallen down the vent pipe into the cellar and feasted all winter on juice apples, safe from the cold or predators and with a good food supply. Lucky ‘possum.
As you and I know, rain is not only good for rhubarb and ‘possums, it’s good for readers and writers too. May your day be blessed with only friendly animals, good, hot coffee and a slice of your favorite pie and, of course, a reassuring supply of cozy mysteries.

What a cute little possum. At first I thought you’d captured a picture of the one that likes to
clime our back fence and send the dogs into a barking frenzy, but I see this one is smaller and
younger. My sister once had one as a pet. It was a cute little thing that followed her around
everywhere.
Yes, they are cute as babies. They have this amazing tail and the ability to play dead to fool any predators.
