Thanks to all those who participated in The Cemetery Club give-away. Thanks also for buying Grave Shift and Best Left Buried. Remember, they are all still offered at a very nice price! Nothing mysterious about that, but it is pretty cozy!
Yesterday, I read an uplifting devotional about not looking back. I think the writer meant that I should not get so caught up with regrets and mistakes and shoulda, woulda, coulda that I don’t live in the present. So, I thought about that. Some things from the past should be remembered–things that are encouraging, good, wholesome. The things I should put behind me are the bad stuff, wrong decisions, stupid mistakes, hurtful scenes, except…except as reminders not to do that ever again.
For example, when I was about eight years old, I rode down a rocky hill on my bicycle which had no handlebar grips. My hands were behind me and my feet on the handlebars. I did that only once. The scar that I will always carry on my upper lip is a reminder that was a foolish thing to do because bike tires going 90 mph downhill hit rocks and flip over.
So, I look forward to this thoughtful Thursday. It is a brand-new day. I won’t drag old, hurtful memories into this lovely morning. Brand-new possibilities are in front of me.
In spring and summer when trees are fully leafed, sometimes my back yard reminds me of the woods that surrounded my house as a child. By using my imagination just a bit, I can cut out the roofs of surrounding houses, the sound of cars on the highway and concentrate on the robins’ song and the sunshine which is gilding the leaves a golden green. It is a new morning. It has never happened before and it holds possibilities and promises that are as golden as the sunshine.
I will look back on April’s lovely days, remember the lessons learned, and look forward to May–a brand new month, a clean white page hopefully filled with a lot of good things!

I hope you had some great book sales, Blanche! I also remember riding my bike without hands and trying to turn a corner. It was on the way to school and the teacher arranged for one of the older students to walk me back home because I’d hit loose gravel, flew off, and scraped the side of my face. I have never tried that again!
Boy! The things we try when we are young and enthusiastic. I’ll bet that hurt when you hit the gravel. My handlebar cut all the way through my lip in a couple of places but thank goodness, it healed nicely. One of those reminders of childhood!
