A floral mystery–why do crocus bulbs which have lain dormant for years suddenly decide it’s time to push their little heads into the sunlight? Thinking that squirrels or moles had them for a light snack, I quit looking for the striped crocus each spring but this is the year they are back. And I’m glad.
Spring is a season of surprises and extremes. This morning, rain is in the forecast and a few sprinkles have already fallen. I’m afraid that tornado season is right around the corner. Or, will winter make an encore performance? It could, you know.
And spring? Well, spring epitomizes life. The sun shines, everything goes along smoothly, then out of the blue, a lightning bolt hits. Something unexpected changes everything.
There’s one thing that’s certain about March and springtime. We will never be bored because it is a whimsical time. And that is kind of like life too, isn’t it?
My mother used to repeat this little verse when I was a child, “Oh March, is this the reason that you’re such a restless thing? You’re not at home with winter and you’re not at home with spring.”
