Fog, a Phantom Forerunner

Fog, a Phantom Forerunner

Fog tangles in the treetops and wraps houses in a misty gray blanket. Weather change! Remember yesterday’s blog about the different sound of the wind? A cold front is coming, pushing warm air out of the way to make room for another wintry blast arriving early tomorrow morning.

Did you see the 1980 horror film, The Fog? I didn’t see it. I don’t like such films or books. They don’t give me a case of the delicious shivers, they scare me into the middle of next week! And give me nightmares. But using fog as the background for a cozy mystery? Yes, that would be an entirely different matter. How did I miss using fog in any of the Darcy and Flora cozies? I love writing weather into the plot of a book. I’ve written about snowstorms, earthquakes, tornadoes, rain and wind but somehow missed fog! I’ll have to remedy that.

Yesterday on several cozy Facebook pages, I posted a photo of a cardinal and his mate in the top of a winter-bare tree, watching for something, I have no clue what. It reminded me of another spooky but intriguing book, The Watcher in the Woods. Although I read it years ago, I still remember it and it is still offered on Amazon. If you like scary, it is worth the read.

Anyway, although fog is a very quiet thing, it is a forerunner, a sign of weather change. So, better get ready. Better batten down the hatches. Fog today but snow tomorrow. More winter is on the way!
