I woke up this morning expecting to see another clear day dawning, as yesterday was. Instead, the sky is pewter gray, snow still covers rooftops and lawns and, actually, the weather looks as if more snow is on the way. If a very red sunrise is any indication, the day will be wintry. Does anyone know? Is a red sky at morning a weather warning?
But don’t you love the changing weather, the surprises that nature hands us? Wouldn’t it be terribly boring if we knew exactly what was going to happen and when (well, OK, I can think of times when knowing would come in handy.)
Not knowing, or thinking that she has everything in hand when in reality, she doesn’t, is the world of Darcy Campbell and Flora Tucker. For example, Darcy has known the farm of Ben Ventris all her life, the gentle rolling hills and the pasture that slopes down to the river. But, you know what? All is not as it appears. She found that out in The Cemetery Club.
Granny Grace was Darcy’s best friend but she died leaving secrets behind that she thought would not be uncovered. Darcy could never have guessed what lay hidden in an old well but there it was and she couldn’t ignore it although at times she thought it was Best Left Buried.
We are all a bit like Darcy and Flora. We may look calm. When people ask us how we are, we reply, “Fine.” But actually, what is going on behind the peaceful eyes and bland smile? Do you ever wonder?
Those gray clouds may carry snow. They look as if they do but maybe they don’t. The day appears peaceful and quiet but remember, things are not always as they seem. That’s the theme of a mystery writer. Fiction? Yes. But sometimes fiction mirrors life.

You’re right, Blanche. Changing weather is not boring! ha! I always think of the little ditty; “Red sky at night, sailor’s delight; Red sky in the morning, sailor’s take warning!”.
But it seems like years ago I read that wasn’t true. Maybe we should research that…when we have a spare minute! : )
That was what I was trying to think of! Thanks, Fran. I guess we’d better batten down the hatches.
