A chorus of robins greets the pre-dawn. I mean, a veritable flock! Maybe a family and their whole bunch of friends and relatives. I wondered if a group of robins has a specific name. For example, geese in flight are a skein, whereas, on the ground they are a gaggle. A bunch of crows is a murder of crows. Names for other bird groups are interesting: a parliament of owls, a bevy of quail, a bouquet of pheasants. A flock of robins could be called a round. Possibly. Whatever, there’s a lot and they are filling the morning air with their gettin’ up song.
Now, if I could just train them to announce the upcoming release of Barbara’s and my three cozy mysteries. They’d be shouting, “Read The Cemetery Club, if you dare! Follow the adventures of Darcy and Flora into an earthquake zone filled with danger in Grave Shift. Find out the reason some secrets surrounding Darcy and Flora were Best Left Buried. Fill your favorite cup with coffee or tea, put your feet up, delve into the realm of shivers and goosebumps with the first of these cozies and read your way through all three. If you dare! But, don’t read them when you are alone or thunder crashes through the night. You might never be able to get to sleep.”
Anyway, if the robins were my town criers, that’s what they’d be crying. However, since they are not, I’ll have to resort to the less spectacular methods of getting out the news of the books’ release. This is the hard part of writing, for me. I love writing. I do not love promoting my books. Oh, I think the books are well written, a fantastic read, and a worthwhile way to spend a few dollars and some free time. But, I’ve never been one to put myself forward.
In fact, as a child, when company came, I was pretty much tongue-tied. When I had to give a speech in school, I sweated bullets, my stomach was upset, my hands shook. Now, later, of course, I enjoy giving talks about Etta Bend. I’ll still love speaking about the three cozies. I like the books and I want others to like them! However, I’m afraid that won’t be enough. I’ll have to be creative and think up ways to tell others the books are on the way, or, finally, that they are available. If you have any ideas about a good way to do this, let me know! That is, besides training robins. That might take a while.
