Mid-April

Can it really almost be the middle of April! After a windy yesterday, this morning is calm and quiet. Not a leaf blowing on the trees and the sky is over-cast. It was slightly over-cast last night as Dawn and I drove out to see the beautiful, pink moon rise. We didn’t find the moon, but we did see the lights of houses glowing in the darkness. I imagined families tucked inside, the weekend at an end and people getting ready for another week.

Each spring, it amazes me to see winter trees sporting new, fresh green leaves. I know they do this each year, always have and always will, but still, it seems miraculous to me that they have a built-in program to know just when it’s time to begin another spring and summer of photosynthesis, offering shade and moisture, and a home for birds and squirrels.

This morning, I continue my tale of Miss Tootsie. I’m about to wrap it up and then will come the edits and re-writes. I’ve never written a book quite like Miss Tootsie, a quiet octogenarian who is caught up in her town’s deadly mystery. She thought she knew her townsfolk, but did she? The only ones she could really count on were Carrie and Bertha, and, of course, Drew Russell. Well, there’s Cocoa and Cleo, but they are a dog and a cat. Miss Tootsie never did believe in ghost lights that people saw at the river, until one particular, harrowing night.

But, wait. Once I get started talking about Miss Tootsie, there’s no stopping place.

So, on this lovely, quiet morning (I see a squirrel’s nest on the limb of my neighbor’s tree. Wonder if there’re babies inside?) I wish you all a happy April day and may all your mysteries be cozy ones.
