Fun, Food, Fellowship–must be Fran’s. And it was. As a form of outreach, this wonderful lady hosts a monthly luncheon for women. It’s a time I look forward to, On the menu are tasty salads, soup, mouth-watering desserts, and a hot drink or water. Fran’s home is as inviting as her luncheons and, more than her lovely home and delicious food, is the friendship I find there. After a long siege of winter, snow, and ice, this oasis of warmth at Fran’s was most welcome.
Two of us cozy critters were there–Peg came and so did I. We missed Nancy and Jane. Susan inquired on the status of my water heater and Janet asked about my progress on Moonlight Can Be Murder. A little encouragement is all a writer needs to talk about her current work in progress. But, a writer listens too. Peg joined the conversation and so did Fran so I came away with a bit of reader-input on the current crisis facing our heroine. Reader input is vital and it pays a writer to listen!
I’ve noticed one of the pitfalls of writing is not wanting to tear myself away from my story. This trends toward making the writer into a recluse–you know–the odd character on the street who never gets out and when she has to go for food, scuttles to the grocery store and back. But getting out among those people you hope will buy your books has its own reward besides keeping a writer from becoming one with her office chair. It’s good to go visiting, see different sights, hear opinions, taste other people’s cooking, laugh, listen, and learn.
Yesterday, Fran’s table had a St. Patrick’s Day theme. One of the desserts was a Key lime pie, the tablecloth had shamrocks, and the laughter around the table was rollicking and reminiscent of Ireland. Thanks, Fran, for inviting us in from the cold and for a warm welcome at your March Luncheon.
